Player Care Foundation
NFL Player Care Foundation
The NFL Player Care Foundation (PCF) is an independent organization that was established in 2007 to improve some of the quality of life issues that confront retired NFL players by funding medical research and national health screenings. Equally important is its role in providing monetary grants to qualified NFL alumni who are experiencing financial hardships.
As part of its granting function, PCF supports eligible former players who need financial assistance in paying for costs associated with assisted living, dementia care, joint replacements, spine treatment or neurological care. Also offered are discounted prescription drug benefits, supplemental Medicare services and disability benefits. As a way to consolidate information and provide centralized financial resources to former players, the NFL Player Care Foundation recently expanded services to include those that were formerly provided through the NFL Alumni Dire Need Fund.
PCF is committed to improving its outreach efforts and overall impact so that it may continue to improve on the services it is able to offer retired NFL players. Through its partnership with the NFL Alumni Association and its diverse board membership, PCF is poised to communicate in a streamlined manner and understand how to best serve the needs of alumni players whose careers contributed to the enormous success of the NFL. To that end, PCF is governed by a board of six directors, including four appointed by the NFL, NFLPA, Pro Football Hall of Fame and the NFL Alumni Association, as well as two board members with expertise in foundation management and social welfare issues.
Although the initial $17 million commitment will go a long way to achieving its initial goals, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity that is able to accept contributions from individuals and corporations interested in assisting former players in need.
